I strolled over to one of the neighborhood estate sales on this sunny yet freezing 33 degree afternoon hoping I would find some sweet deals. It was managed by “Classic Tag Sales,” of Hartsdale, NY. I entered this nice old house and quickly noticed the old smell and vintage items in abundance. I have to admit though, visiting different types of estate sales is a unique experience, you never know what you might find.
I found the books and movie shelves which peaked my interest and I picked out two action DVDs and a book called “It takes a Village” by Hillary Clinton. One of the sales reps or “estate sale pros” gave me a slip for them and I figured when I went over to pay I could barter them down from $8.50 to $5 dollars for the three items. The older gentleman sales rep said he couldn’t change the price if the other sales rep wrote it on “the slip,” and I thought to myself, that’s bull. They even were charging sales tax at this sale, double rip off!
I figured they would at least make a counter offer, it was the final hour of the two day sale on Saturday afternoon and they prefer the goods over the cash. That’s a first for me. I guess I’ll have to wait until the spring when these items are donated to the local library or something and then sold at their annual book sale for $0.50 each! Sorry Ellen Eisner & Classic Tag Sales, I’m a deal maker, not a deal breaker!
