I almost got a chance to find out…
This past Saturday was the four year anniversary of my life.
You might be wondering what I could possibly mean by this – I’m certainly not four years old, and today isn’t even in the same month as my birthday. Well, on January 5, 2009 I suffered a major heart attack. It may have been four years ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday. I can recall images passing through my mind: parents I’d never see again, a wife I’d never hold again and an unborn child with whom I would never have the chance to play ball.
Needless to say, I survived. It turns out, however, that I was just a few weeks away from not being so lucky. My doctor informed me that if the heart attack had occurred even one month later, I would not be here right now. My left main artery, appropriately nicknamed the widow maker, was 99% blocked. After hearing this news, my outlook on life changed. I immediately realized that every day truly is a gift. I learned to slow down and enjoy life, spending more time with my family friends. I realize that my last few posts here haven’t had much to do with garage sales, but I wanted to share this story to remind everyone that you never know how long you have on this earth. It really isn’t worth your time to stress over the little things. You never know when your time will be up, so make sure to fit in those people and activities that make your life worth while.
Wishing you a happy, and healthy, new year.
– Aaron

More “thrifty” topics will be coming next week. It’s National Organization Month and I don’t know about you, but I think a new year is the perfect time to clean out the house and get ready for a garage sale!
