It is never too early to start decorating for the Holidays. After all, a lot of stores like to put Christmas and Halloween merchandise out in the middle of July. Our Star of Decorating on a Dime today, Pamela Layton McMurtry, is no stranger to redesigning thrifted items into decorations, especially Halloween items. Pamela is the author and designer of A Harvest and Halloween Handbook, which focuses on creating decorations and throwing fantastic parties. In fact, Pamela sent us a few of her favorites from the book to share with everyone!
Pamela: “One bookmark” features an Early American-style curio from the Deseret Industries thrift store in Centerville, Utah $8. I used it for a promotional bookmark, it is displayed for Halloween parties in an entry or bathroom counter.
Pamela: “2” is a $6 clock is from the same Deseret Industries thrift store, it hangs in my dining room
Pamela: “DH front” is a doll house I bought at the Deseret Industries thrift store in Layton, Utah for $3, painted and furnished with old toys and candy wrappers. The stove is made of old blocks and the stools are spools from an antique store in Layton, Utah, $1 each. I use it as a centerpiece and for fairy house treasure hunts in the yard with battery tea lights.
Pamela: “Candy jar tin” is a Halloween carnival candy guessing game and has a pumpkin-topped jar; $1 Deseret Industries Layton, Utah.
These all look really awesome! I might have to use a few of these to decorate for this coming Halloween. Thank you to Pamela Layton McMurtry to letting us showcase her wonderful recycled and repurposed items.
