Kay Richards is founder and “Chief Miracle Worker” for Stage-Right Interiors. Kay got her start on ‘designing on a dime” while working the local community theater circuit as a set dresser/props mistress. There was NO budget, so creativity and the ability to make something out of nothing, counted. Interiors have always been my passion, along with the belief that anyone could have a beautiful home regardless of budget. Creativity, not cash, is king!
Here are some of her latest creations:
Before – Ugly vase cost $2.00 at a yard sale.
After – Less than $1.50 worth of paint . Used this with the inspiration piece to create repetition and rhythm in a small space.
Inspiration piece: This cost $3.00 on clearance @TJMaxx

After: $15 worth of paint. This went towards a mid-century inspired lounge (still under construction). Used pewter spray paint. Lost the feeling in my spray paint finger for 6 months due to the number of coats. Small price to pay for creative art!
Before: Free, but badly damaged in a flood.
After: had to cannibalize all chairs to make just one. Had all the paint and fabric leftover from another project so another freebee.
Before: Found a beat-up old chandelier in the trash, similar to this one.
After: Found a beat-up old chandelier in the trash, similar to this one.
Before: Metal wall hanging, $2.00 at a yard sale.
After: New light fixture cover for foyer. Client had an old white sheet which we used to line this. This is one of my all time favorites!
This was a plain, old , beaten-up black Webber Grill. Kay’s convinced this is one of the things that sold this particular house!
