Every once in a while a really unique and interesting item pops up for sale in our virtual garage sale section of our website. A couple weeks ago we saw this awesome “Baseball Bling,” so we followed up with the seller and asked if we could share and feature this awesome work on our blog. Here’s Kathy Rodrigues’ “Baseball Blig:”
I have been creating my “Baseball Bling” for a little over four months now. We have been involved in baseball since my son started playing at four years old. He is now eleven and on a travel ball team where basically “baseball” is our life. A friend sent me a picture of a similiar bracelet and I loved the concept, yet I decided to make mine unique in their own way. When I say unique, I mean creating the baseball so it is a cuff style and putting different types of embellishments for for a very feminine style. I wore one of them at my sons world series tournaments and it was a hit!
It takes me about thirty minutes to an hour to make one bracelet. It depends on if I am putting an embellishment on it or I am hand placing/gluing crystals to suit the customers needs.
At the moment I do not use any second-hand “Bling,” but if I come across something that was unique, then I would definitely use it.
I use an adjustable cuff bracelet on the inside of the ball to keep its cuff shape and to shape to the persons wrist.
I do not market or sell my items on other online marketplaces right now. I sell them through word of mouth and to a salon in Scottsdale, AZ, and in Storm Stadium in Lake Elsinore this coming March. I also have put them on Facebook where they did get a lot of attention.
The baseballs I use are genuine leather so I am sure you could use a leather protectant against stains and water damage. I have not tried one, but someone did tell me they scotch-guarded it to prevent stains and it worked great.
My favorite professional baseball team is the “Angels,” being from Anaheim I will always be a fan! My son’s team, and my husband’s organization is called California Select and we are a “travel baseball team” who competes throughout California and other states. So really, that is my favorite team.
I think times are changing and you see more women fans out at the field supporting their major league teams or anyone that they are a fan for, and want to look good doing it. It is fun having a little bling and fashion out on the field!
