Bekka Grites is a San Francisco Stylist and has worked in the fashion industry for several years in New York City and now San Francisco. Stylist by nature, public relations consultant by trade, and blogger by fun, “From Her Closet“ features head-to-toe looks styled entirely of Bekka’s personal fashion collection.
What’s your mantra? “Use what you have and love, no matter the season. Every closet, when styled correctly, can be as trendy, hip, and chic as the most contemporary, popular, designer looks.”
What’s your background in Halloween thrift and costume design? “Being a longtime lover of vintage pieces and thrift shop gems, I have put together numerous of my own, as well as other’s, Halloween costumes for many years. Aside from Halloween though, I am a stylist who promotes re-using what you already own in exciting, trendy and imaginative ways.”
Goodwill and Salvation Army stores tend to have “Halloween” sections, where you can find many beaded and sequined items, but don’t stop there. Grandma-chic pieces can still be found in the depths of the less-rummaged racks. Statement, luxury items like fur stoles, cashmere sweaters, or high-end vintage accessories are always located behind or hanging above the checkout counter. Be sure to look through both the counter jewelry, as well as bulk beads for as many faux pearl and diamond pieces you can get your hands on. You can never have enough pearls if you’re donning a Daisy Buchanan look!
Below are some of Bekka’s fabulous thrift shop Halloween tips, tricks, and ideas. She came up with 5 very distinct looks, all of which have their own distinct trick or tip to go with them.
