Partnerships with The Creators Project and Brooklyn Brewery for additional food events; Giant record fair and Independent Label Market this Saturday; Google Places event Oct. 15.
Fresh from an appearance by its food vendors at the All Tomorrow’s Parties music festival in Asbury Park, NJ, Brooklyn Flea enters the fall with several special events and partnerships with some of the most creative and innovative people and businesses in New York City, including Vice and Intel’s Creators Project, Google, Brooklyn Brewery, Skylight NYC, Mister Saturday Night, Other Music, The Daily Swarm, and MTV Hive.
The Flea proudly returns to the majestic Skylight One Hanson space at the former Williamsburg Savings Bank for its third winter run. From November 26/27 through March 31/April 1, 2012, the market will be open every Saturday and Sunday from 10:00am to 5:00pm at Skylight One Hanson, except Christmas and New Year’s weekends when it will be closed. The Flea’s Gifted holiday market goes on hiatus this year; instead its regular vintage, handmade, and food vendors will be the holiday destination this year. The market will be open three additional dates for Christmas shopping: Friday, December 16, Wednesday, December 21, and Thursday, December 22.
This Saturday, October 8, the Flea’s 4th annual Superstar DJ Record Fair http://www.brooklynflea.com/2011/09/09/recordfair links up with London’s Independent Label Market for an event featuring 50 vintage-vinyl and record-label vendors, a kids disco party (Noon-1pm) hosted by DJs Justin Carter and Eamon Harkin of Mister Saturday Night, album-cover face-painting, and oddball vintage musical equipment—all inside the Smorgasburg food market in Williamsburg, from 10:00am to 5:00pm. The record fair is proud to feature as partners this year Converse, The Daily Swarm, MTV Hive, and Other Music.
On Saturday, October 15, 11 Flea and Smorgasburg food vendors will serve fans at The Creators Project http://creatorsproject.com/events/the-creators-project-new-york-2011, a massive art and technology festival hosted by VICE and Intel in DUMBO, featuring a Karen O opera, performances by Four Tet and Florence and the Machine, and art installations by Jonathan Glazer and J. Spaceman, UVA, Quayola, and more. The Flea will be the food and beverage concessionaire for The Creators Project. Also that day, three longtime Flea vendors will showcase their food trucks at the Fort Greene market at the main entrance: Milk Truck (grilled cheese), Red Hook Lobster Pound, and Solber Pupusas.
Also on October 15, Google New York will partner with the Flea to promote Google http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=166980886719124 Places http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=166980886719124, a local-recommendation search tool and uniquely useful way for small business owners to manage their online presence. Up to 300 customers will be eligible for a treat from participating Smorgasburg vendors at this first-come, first-serve giveaway.
In addition to moving indoors to Skylight One Hanson, the Flea and Brooklyn Brewery will launch SmorgasBrewery on Sunday, December 4: a mini-Smorgasburg featuring a rotating cast of five Flea/Smorg food vendors serving inside the Brewery’s Tasting Room on North 11th St. in Williamsburg. The weekly feast will coincide with the Brewery’s regular Sunday hours (noon-6:00pm), which include free brewery tours on the hour. SmorgasBrewery will run noon to 5:00pm, and is scheduled to last through March 2012. Vendor lineups will be announced closer to the start date.
