In just a couple weeks Lynda Hammond will be joining us as a blogger here on 2nd Hand Social. Lynda is The Garage Sale Gal and a former Garage Sale Snob! Notice we say “former”. The Columbus native graduated from The Ohio State University with a BA in Broadcast Journalism. For 15 years, Lynda anchored television newscasts in markets across the country including New York, Kansas and Minnesota. After being dragged to a garage sale in Kansas she fell in love with the art of rummaging through other people’s stuff. But in 2001, garage saling became more than just a hobby. She and her husband, both out of a job, paid the house payment and utility bills by reselling their garage sale finds online while searching for work. After moving to Arizona Lynda began a web site for garage sale enthusiasts. www.GarageSaleGal.com is a destination Web site where users list and look for garage sales on line. Thanks to the incredible popularity of garage sales in Arizona (so popular in fact, Lynda refers to Arizona as the Garage Sale Capitol of World) Lynda’s garage sale passion has blossomed into many endeavors. Since 2005, Lynda has been writing a weekly column for The Arizona Republic on garage sales, which runs statewide in the paper and the Republic’s Web site: http://www.azcentral.com/members/Blog/LyndaHammond Lynda has taught classes on garage sale buying and selling at Mesa Community College. Lynda has even combined her TV experience and love of garage sales. She can be seen regularly on Phoenix TV stations sharing tips on garage sales. Lynda also appears on national TV programs including the Dave Ramsey Show on Fox Business and national radio shows. Lynda’s tips have also appeared in magazines including Good Housekeeping and Country Living. And various other publications including McCleans in Canada. Lynda is also the author of the book that shows you how to clear the clutter and bring in cash fast. The Garage Sale Gal’s Guide to Making Money off your Stuff, released March 2011, and is now available in stores and online. Lynda is married to Kevin (one of her former co-anchors) and has a gorgeous Golden Doodle named Millie and a perky Poodle mix named Roxy. Look for her blog the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. Contact her at: [email protected]
