Today, we have another exciting adventure for Decorating on a Dime. I got to speak with Shannon Morris, a recycling and repurposing blogger who spends hours searching through thrift stores and estate sales for the most hopeless items. Shannon believes that many hopeless items need a fresh eye and can be salvaged into beautiful decoration pieces. She also designs for clients and friends by encouraging them to stay true to their own style and use what they already have. I was very lucky to talk to Shannon and have her tell me about a few of her recent designs.
Shannon: This a lamp I purchased for 10 dollars at The Habitat Home Store. Its shade was broken, the glass was very dirty and it needed to be rewired. So I cleaned all the parts, made a new shade with architectural vellum, from an estate sale, and rewired. This actually hangs above my kitchen table because I love it so much.
Shannon: This is an office that I decorated using mostly garage sales and The Habitat Home store. All the art was given to her by friends and or family and I salvaged everything but the corner chair which we bought new. The desk and chair were 30 dollars and I painted them and recovered the seat to match other accents in the room. I am not sure what the metal piece was before, but it was free and I wired it into a lamp and painted it black.
Shannon: Space number three is a porch that I renovated from top to bottom myself replacing floorboards and trim and painting. I also made the pillows. There are several “rescue and reloved” pieces on this porch but favorite is the lamp hanging in the corner. Another garage sale find I cleaned it rewired it and painted the metal pieces to match the other porch accents.
Wow, these are all really amazing. I can see why Shannon loves the porch lamp; it is absolutely adorable. Thank you, Shannon Morris, for allowing us to show off your cute and creative items.
