Have you ever wondered why some Levi’s apparel has a capital “E” and why others have a lower-case “e” on their tags? The Tab with LEVI’S (also known as “Big E”) means that your jeans are from before 1971.
Want to know another secret?
If your jeans have a buckle and strap on the back of the waistband, like the pair pictured here, then you’re really cooking: this pair is from the 1930s or earlier.
As you go back in time, LEVIS jeans become much more challenging to spot because they don’t have a red Tab, belt loops or other identifying marks. On their jackets, older LEVIS have only one pocket on the chest and if the jacket doesn’t have the red Tab, it means it was made before the mid-1930’s and highly sought after by vintage apparel collectors and fashion enthusiasts.
Levi’s has a great resource on their website for Levi owners to check out their denim gear and find out what it’s worth, check it out here: http://www.levistrauss.com/about/heritage/resources/consumers-collectors
Now, the next time you’re in a Consignment Shop, shopping a Flea Market or at a yard sale, be sure to take a close look at the denim, you might just find some valuable clothing at a deep discount!
