This is certainly one Flea Market you don’t want to miss! Stormville has over 600 vendors from all over the region, it’s no wonder people say it’s the best kept secret in Dutchess County, New York.
I first started going when I was a Senior in High School. I used to collect antique bottles so seeing rare and unique bottles that were for sale here was always interesting for me. I remember keeping track of what some vendors were asking for some of the same bottles I had in my collection to see how valuable my hobby was.
When I was in college, this was the fun part. Sometimes they have a couple of vendors with “bargain bins,” literally boxes among boxes of the most random crap that you’ll ever think of. Everything from misprint t-shirts to bungee cords and duct tape. You never knew what you could expect to find there that could be a fun new prank in the dorms.
Once I graduated I was still using Ebay every now and then to make some extra money for the weekends. I started going with a friend who had an eye for antiques and could easily “flip” something he bought the same day for a good profit. We drove up early on a Saturday morning and scouted out what the vendors unpacked and would make offers on stuff. By noon time we had our new treasures, some of which we valued for our own collections, and others we knew we could make a profit on that would buy us breakfast and lunch that day.
Stormville Flea Market is definitely a family event. I suggest going early because it’s generally less crowded. On the way out though, don’t forget to stop at Karl Ehmer’s for some of the best meats you can find. I also recommend the pickle stand for fresh, great tasting pickles, and of course the kettle popcorn booth for the best tasting kettle corn you’ll find in New York.
Happy bargain hunting!
