Differentiating ourselves from Craigslist:
Craigslist is an online free classifieds service open buyers and sellers on a global level. In the section “For Sale,” posted items are listed individually unless listed in the “Free” or “Items Wanted” category. Craigslist clearly discourages on-line or virtual tag sales, however, you can advertise your “physical” tag sale in the “Garage Sales” section. Craigslist does not currently charge to post an item in its “For Sale” section.
Differentiating ourselves from Ebay:
Ebay is a global on-line auction powerhouse. Items are auctioned off singularly or as “sets” of similar items or product. (i.e. Pez dispensers or toys can be auctioned off in a “lot” because they are the same item). Ebay charges their sellers a listing fee to list an item and a commission fee when the item sells, which is based on the final sale price.
*Ebay owns a 25% interest in Craigslist
Tagsellit.com allows users to list their items singularly or by sets as similar items. A brief description, asking price and photos can all be included and uploaded to the site. There is a modest one-time flat fee for posting your sale on the site. Users can pick the duration, manage their content throughout the sale and communicate with buyers. Initially an “anonymous” email sent through Tagsellit’s forum would commence communication between parties.
Advantages of using Tagsellit.com
1. Advertise the physical sale of items at a specific place and time (Similar to classifieds, only enhanced!)
2. Users can list multiple items and manage them all at the same time from any internet connection.
3. Those who cannot physically hold a tag sale can advertise a virtual tag sale for buyers to make an offer. An example of this would be someone who lives in Manhattan and is relocating or downsizing and needs to sell their items all at once but they do not want to deal with commissions or with creating multiple postings on a classifieds website.
