Today we celebrate Earth Day, one of the most important global holidays on the calendar. Today is the day we each take a few minutes to pitch in and pick up a few extra pieces of litter or save a few extra trees by deciding to go with an alternative building material for your home, perhaps a sustainable resource like bamboo. Earth Day is a day where we all need to show our appreciation and be thankful for what Mother Nature provides to us every day.
Today more than ever you hear people drilling the phrase “reduce, reuse, recycle” as you should be every day. Here are three things you can do each day that will contribute to a more friendly environment and therefore make it feel like Earth Day everyday for you!
Reduce – Let’s reduce the use of unnecessary plastic and take canvas shopping bags to the grocery store that we can use over and over and you can get creative with them, have the kids get involved too!
Reuse – If you have items you are no longer using, ask a friend or a neighbor if they have a use for it or better yet, see if there’s a need for it at a local charitable contribution drop off store such as the Salvation Army. You can also have a tag sale so other’s can benefit from your items while you get paid for things you no longer had a use for, it’s a win-win solution!
Recycle – We can recycle just about anything these days. Hopefully you’ll think twice about the above two ideas and you’ll begin recycling more than you realize it!
Happy Earth Day 2009!
