It’s quite simple, one person’s trash, is another’s treasure. There’s no question recycling has saved hundreds of millions of dollars, saved countless organisms on the planet from possible extinction and has been a global phenomenon in the past couple of decades as we all consider living more of a “green” lifestyle.
Never before has it been easier to offer items for free which may have little value to one person but to another may mean the world. From furniture and clothing, to glass and aluminum, someone will put it to use.
A site we’re exited about is Freecycle.org. It’s a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It’s all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer (them’s good people). Membership is free.
The Freecycle Network is one of several no-cost avenues that entrepreneurs can use for sourcing and donating equipment, furniture, materials, metals, supplies, technology and tools.
Deron Beal, founder of Freecycle.org says that the service spans 85 countries and gives away over 20,000 items per day. “The capital economy has a lot of gaps in it for items that no longer have any economic value, but still have usefulness.”
