Part 3 of our 4 part series on Popular Mechanic’s Tips for scoring great garage sale deals focuses on Winter Sports Equipment!
A lot of people have old skis in their garages, and none of them have any value—even old wooden skis that seem like they might be collectibles tend to be worth very little money, which is why you see them decorating restaurants and ski shops so often.
But the snowboarding world is still young enough that some of the earliest models, ones with some value, are still floating around in garage sales. A Burton Backhill from the late 1970s or early 1980s, if you find one in mint condition, can be worth a couple of thousand dollars. They were made of wood, had a slip-in, waterski-like binding for the front foot and no binding for the back.
