Some Quick Tips for Sellers
Source Your Inventory – it’s important to review your items that you wish to sell. Even if you have doubts about some items selling, it’s still worth putting it out, as the saying goes, “one person’s trash is another person’s treasure!”
Pricing Items – Successful sellers will tell you that pricing your items is the best strategy as it opens up a “haggling” point for people and allows for easier conversation in making an offer. The best strategy is to put a price tag on all your items create a simple spreadsheet that corresponds to your sale items listed with prices next to them for reference. Keep this to yourself and use it as a guide, and make note of the final price you agree on so you can tally up your totals easier at the end of your event.
Presentation – Organization is key. Don’t clutter your items and try to keep similar items arranged well (i.e. homegoods, tools, electronics, etc.). This allows for easy browsing and makes your items look better.
Advertising – Keywords in your advertising help people to determine whether or not the sale will be desirable for them. Attention getting words and phrases include:
“Everything Must Go”
“Lifestyle Liquidation”
“Moving Sale”
“Estate Sale”
These descriptions tend to yield great turnouts because people are seeking deals! Smart bargain hunters and collectors look for key words such as “Antiques” and “Collectibles” and tend to believe that you know your inventory, in which case you may be less likely to negotiate on price. The best thing to do is know your inventory, and price things to sell.
